Proposition 47

On November 5, 2014, California voters passed Proposition 47.

Proposition 47 takes several crimes that were previously felonies or wobblers (meaning that they could be charged as a felony or a misdemeanor), and changes them to misdemeanors.

The crimes impacted by Proposition 47 include:

Grand Theft Auto (if the car is less than $950),

Grand Theft Firearm (if the firearm is less than $950),

Shoplifting (if the property is less than $950),

Receiving Stolen Property (if the property is less than $950),

Forgery, Check Fraud,

Possession of a Controlled Substance, (including methamphetamine and cannabis)

Proposition 47 allows people convicted of one as these crimes (as a felony), and request from the court to resentence them and reduce their felony to a misdemeanor.
